Do you have a Powder Coating Project we can help with?

WHAT IS POWDER COATING?

Powder coating is currently one of the most popular finishing techniques available on the market. The industry has experienced and estimate growth of 6% after 2010 and has been experiencing huge leaps in technology since.

Powder coating is a term used to describe a particular finish or base. Starting out as a fine powder consisting of finely ground particles of pigment and polymer resin. After the powder is applied to a surface, the powder is chemically altered with heat to create a finishing film.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE PROCESS?

Preparation: Materials undergo a thorough cleaning process to prepare it for the application of powder coating. Cleaning involves removing surface contaminants, and it also prepares the surface for maximum adhesion between the material and the powder coating. Most issues with powder coatings are the result of improper preparation, rather than an issue with the powder coating itself.

Attaching the powder coating to the product: Finishers either spray the powder coating onto prepared surfaces or dip the surface into a fluid containing particles of suspended powder coating. In either of these cases, the particles are bound to the item using either electricity or heat.

Curing: After the powder coating is applied to the surface of the item, the item is moved into an oven, where the heat causes the particles of powder coating to melt, merging into a continuous film.
